    About Hassey Engineering

    Michael Hassey brings over 30 years of experience in both construction and design management, with a focus on infrastructure projects. He leads engineering teams with strategic advice and oversees all phases of design management—from tender to final approval—ensuring successful outcomes for complex, high-value projects. His recent experience as Engineering Manager on Mega Infrastructure Projects has equipped him with a deep understanding of design and construction challenges, allowing him to effectively manage stakeholder needs and close-out project issues.

    WestConnex Stage 3B – Rozelle Interchange

    This project is delivering a grade separated interchange between the M7 Motorway and the M12 Motorway including the realignment of Elizabeth Drive and the widening of 26km of the M7 Motorway in each direction. This project is being delivered by John Holland.

    Michael’s key involvement on the project:

    • Led all aspects of the design delivery for the project
    • Established and implemented design processes for all aspects of design delivery from establishment, detailed design approval, construction phase services and completions
    • Delivered design documentation ahead of the construction program and in compliance with the complex contemporary SWTC technical and process requirements

     Michael’s key involvement on the project:

    • Delivered simplified design to facilitate seamless approvals, streamlined construction methodologies, reduced program durations, and drove value for money for JHCPB and TfNSW
    • Assumed overall responsibility for the Design Team Leadership, managing the overall design program to ensure timely delivery of complete and verified design packages
    • Provided link between design, methodology and construction and delivered collaboration for a fully integrated design

     Michael’s key involvement on the project: 

    • As Design and then CPS Manager, delivered approximately 100 Design Packages covering civil elements, bridges, and cut and cover structures as well as the Operational Noise and Vibration Report through all phases of the Project
    • Led all aspects of successful design development, including leadership of Safety in Design, consultation with community groups, incorporation of constructability in design, and collaboration with the client to understand ‘real’ client drivers
    • Worked closely with the construction, community, approvals, and quality teams and became integral to the effort to identify and solve issues throughout the construction of the project.

    Pacific Hwy Upgrade Nambucca Heads to Urunga

    Design and construction of 22km of four-lane dual-carriageway, including a northern bypass, around Urunga on a new alignment and a five-span twin-bridge over the Kalang River. The scope also involved 3,800,000m3 of earthworks, 36 bridges, dedicated fauna crossings, and 180,000m3 of concrete pavement. This project was delivered by Abigroup.

    Michael’s key involvement on the project: 

    • Responsible for managing all design activities to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions throughout the entire project lifecycle
    • Conducted technical site inspections, devising scopes of work and liaising with clients, authorities and the community, as well as providing advice and guidance on constructability, cost planning, and urban design
    • Acted as the interface between design, estimating, bid and construction teams, ensuring a single, coordinated, deliverable solution was proposed
